Having listened yesterday to the ‘Secrets of Successful Female Tra-Preneurs’ at this year’s World Travel Market in London, it was encouraging this morning to see the report of a 10-year-old Canadian girl entrepreneur. Abi Smithson has launched a new line of flip flops called Love Sandal.
"If I can build a successful shoe business at 10 years old, there is no reason that you can't follow your heart too".
If young Abi continues to follow in the footsteps of the travel industry women who opened their hearts to delegates yesterday – Julia Feuell, Mandy Nickerson, Sarah Johnson and Jessica Bain – she has a life of hard work ahead of her, but one that will also be very rewarding. The ages at which these women began their lives as entrepreneurs varied enormously but did not appear to be part of the equation for success or failure.
It is November and just over a hundred years since The Times published Laurence Binyon’s poem ‘For the Fallen’:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

Smithson envisioned the Love Sandal at 8-years old after noticing less-than-cool tan lines on her mom's foot leftover from the basic flip flop. Her vision led her to create the socially-responsible brand; designing multiple Love Sandal collections over the past year. Thanks to the dreams of a 10-year old Toronto native, women can now sport heart shaped tan lines on their feet with sandals designed by Smithson herself.
